Modesto now has over 100 ALPR cameras. Americans should not be under mass surveillance. Capturing so much data that police (or any bad actor) can completely retrace someone’s activity is a violation of our Fourth Amendment rights.
For this project we will stand under the ALPR cameras with signs pointing them out to passing vehicle and pedestrian traffic. We will have two events where we do this as a group. The rest of the week you can take this action on your own, at the closest ALPRs to you. If we all do this then we should have a good representation throughout the week, throughout the city.

GET a mask (optional)
In reference to our privacy and staying anonymous we suggest wearing a mask during the protest. We have purchased a bunch of the same mask in bright colors so that we can be visually consistent throughout the week with this specific action. Here is the link to the masks at Michael’s:

make sure you can identify the cameras
These are the current ALPRS that Modesto has in use & that we will be focusing on in this action. Visit deflock.org or the deflock app for a map of the camera locations.
These types of cameras below are not ALPRs. They are part of MPD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), which means they are monitored by staff 24/7, but they do not log & store license plate/tracking data…yet.
